There is a certain satisfaction gained from experience. It really revolves around the
people you meet along the way. In the decades of my involvement in the finance
industry, one particular time comes to mind, and I think about it quite often.
The period is the late 1990's when I was a Senior Lender working for Farm Credit
Services. Our particular market segment were large and complex loans. We served
clients throughout the Midwest mainly, but also as as 'far out' as California.
My partner Jeff and I were cattle industry specialists. Our adventures spanned from
Nebraska to Texas. It never ceased to amaze me but it seemed no matter where we
were, Amarillo, Ogalala, Scottsbluff, Ideal, Jeff would invariably know someone or
knew someone. His infectious laughter and Irish wit coupled with deep spirituality,
made him unforgettable.
Over time we evolved into the roles of 'Butch and Sundance', with Jeff playing the
part of Butch to a tee. Our paths eventually parted but not our friendship. He left
this world after a fight with Covid a couple of years back.
Some people we meet you want to forget. Some you never forget. Don't forget to
reach out to those you have met along the way like Jeff. Time is your friend for a
while.
